Weed 3.7 - Technology in the Garden

This is what I know about my favorite technology.

He is a Roomba vacuuming robot.

His name is Buster.

I would rather spend 30 awe-struck minutes watching him vacuum a room instead of spending 10 minutes vacuuming the room myself.

It's thrilling when he disappears to clean under the couch.

He has the cutest beep patterns!

He scares the cat and the dog.

He moonlights as a spirograph artist.

This (and many other things) is what I don't know about my favorite technology.

Is the plant behind Buster and the troll a weed?

Will they ever invent a weed detecting/pulling robot?

They are just as notorious as vegetable garden weeds and dog house garden weeds.

If I played my banjo for them, would they shrivel up and die?

Doghouse Garden

This is what I know about the Doghouse Garden....

The doghouse was built by my son when he was "in the doghouse" for misbehaving.

He didn't see the need for right angles or levels.

A dog will not step paw into the doghouse unless I throw a treat in there.

The garden is mostly shade.

I have planted many, many plants in the doghouse garden.

Sometimes, I forget to water... the plants, not the dog.

This (among many other things) is what I don't know about the doghouse garden.

Is the tall plant to the left of the doghouse door in picture 1 a weed?

Is the plant behind the hostas in picture 2 a weed?

How do you train a dog to use a doghouse?

The Vegetable Garden

This is what I know about my vegetable garden.

My vegetable garden is 10 x 30 patch of backyard.

I planted 15 tomato plants, 8 pepper plants, 2 eggplant plants.

I might have planted zucchini and cucumber seeds.

Bugs usually eat the eggplants and cucumbers.

I mulch by lining the patch with newspaper and then covering it with straw.

In years past, I planted flowers in the vegetable patch.

It's been quite lovely.

This (and much more) is what I don't know about my vegetable garden.

Are these plants weeds?

Who knew bugs like cucumbers and eggplants?

'The weeds will win because nature bats last' Robert M. Pyle

Each year I spend way too much money at local nurseries. I am also fortunate to have many gardening friends who share the bounty of their beds. I (vicariously, through my husband) lovingly plant our new acquisitions and marvel at our handiwork. Without fail, cleaning the beds out for mulch the following spring always leads to the same question... Is this a weed? I am sure that I have pulled and tossed many beautiful (and costly) plants due to my lack of weedly wisdom.

In the coming months, I will post pictures of the little green culprits in search of answers I so desparately weed... I mean need.
